10 Must-Watch Movies for New and Heart-Centered Coaches
*This week’s article is contributed by Haylie, our wonderful team member.
A film's impact on people is unmatched. It transcends language barriers to transform a person’s emotional space.
Eventually, we learn something from the movies as they comfort us in a way that words can barely describe.
New and aspiring coaches face the same challenges regarding their self-identity, defining their niche, and doing their best to bring their light to the world. Yet, to claim themselves is a transformative journey.
This month, we’re celebrating the top 10 movies that shape the life and mindset of our talented coaches within our Impact Coaching Circle™ (ICC™) community to remind ourselves of who we are and what we have to offer as we own our unique gift to the world.
Here are the selections that you might have seen already or might want to add to your to-watch list later, curated and recommended by me and our own ICC™ members:
1/
Moana (2016)
Released back in 2016 by Disney, the musical film brings you on an adventure out to the Hawaiian sea with our protagonist Moana, the daughter of Chief Tui, as she embarks on a quest to reclaim the heart of Te Fiti after being stolen by Maui - a demi-god, and saves the island from a severe blight.
As Moana learns more about her ancestors and owning her place as a sailer as she’s forbidden by her father, she discovers her true identity, gains back confidence, and starts to lead the way for her people to sail into the sea once more.
The film features fun and heartfelt musical numbers, with the talented voices of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Maui and Aluli’i Cravalho as the bold and brave Moana.
This film is a beautiful reminder for new coaches to trust the process, and you’ll lead the way with ease if you dare to sail into the unknown.
It might be a bumpy journey ahead, but as long as you’re surrounded by the right-minded people who support you along the way, you’ll blossom into the most beautiful version of yourself.
2/
Little Women (2019 Version)
Based on a coming-of-age novel in the 1860s written by Louisa May Alcott, Little Women directed by Greta Gerwig, not only stays true to the story's core but also brings a brand new perspective.
The film centers on the March sisters' lives from childhood to adulthood during the American Civil War. Similarly to the previous adaptations from the novel, Little Women explores the beautiful facets of following your dreams, and no matter how big or small they are, your dreams are valid.
Greta Gerwig’s sophisticated touch on the March sisters is unforgettable. She dives deeply into the minds of the March girls, each with their own ambitions.
Similarly to when you start as a new coach, you might face doubts and fears, but that also comes with excitement as each character brings into their personality and growth.
No matter what you choose, remember that it’s for your own good. Follow the designated path that matters to you and your clients; you’ll shine your brightest light the way the March sisters shine theirs, despite their different paths.
3/
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001 - 2003)
The Lord of the Rings trilogy is still considered one of the most successful franchises in pop culture. It was directed by Peter Jackson and released consecutively from 2001 to 2003.
The trilogy is based on a best-selling novel by J.R.R. Tolkien under the same title. The plot takes place in Middle Earth, where the One Ring forged by the Dark Lord Sauron has been taking over the landscape.
A quest is established for a group of Hobbits, Men, a Wizard, an Elf, and a Dwarf to travel deep into the Mount of Doom to destroy the ring once and for all.
You might be wondering why this film is included on this list?
Despite being a fantasy adventure, the beautiful lessons from the movies are out of this world. Honoring friendship and companionship when going out into the deep end and supporting each other in hard times are everlasting values that no money in the world can buy.
As you can see, it takes a team to destroy a ring. So do you.
As a coach, you need a success team to build your flourishing coaching business that stands strong with you even when things get hard and embraces you no matter how you feel that day.
Start asking for support, surround yourself with a community where you truly belong, and you’ll be just fine.
4/
Inside Out Franchise (2015 - 2024)
With “Inside Out 2” just recently released and being a blockbuster at cinemas worldwide, this is surely an honorary mention for all coaches.
This movie provides insight into a person's mind and emotions, specifically inside Riley's mind from her younger years into her teenage years. Each of her emotions represents how she feels during a period of time, from Joy, Anger, Sadness, Disgust, and Fear.
When Riley enters high school, she is met by new triggering emotions ranging from Envy, Anxiety, Enui, and Embarrassment.
As a new and aspiring coach, there’s an inner voice that says you’re not enough and adequate to build a sustainable coaching business, you’re too sensitive to do coaching, or you’re too young to lead people through their difficulties.
And so many more being thrown at you, that makes you want to shut down and quit.
However, these are just thoughts and emotions. When you experience it, it doesn’t mean you’re not worthy of this path. It just means you’re going out of your comfort zone and doing something new.
Not only is the movie a beautiful example of how our emotions function, but it also highlights the importance of honoring ourselves and our feelings because our emotions are valid, AND we are enough to take one step at a time to follow our soul’s calling no matter what.
5/
Spider-Man Trilogy (2002 - 2004)
Spider-Man is the most well-beloved fictional superhero when speaking of the friendly neighborhood superhero swinging the webs from building to building in New York while living a double life as a life-saver and a science nerd.
The film trilogy stars Tobey McGuire as Peter Parker, the young hero of New York who becomes Spider-Man overnight after being bitten by a radioactive spider during his field trip to the lab. Unaware of his newfound power, Peter has to find ways to embrace his new identity while balancing his everyday life with school work and making new friends.
Peter Parker is the utmost figure when it comes to owning your identity and embracing your fear, taking the leap of faith, and just doing it anyway, despite the challenges (which, in Peter’s case, the villains!).
The film beautifully showcases Peter’s struggles to fit in, whether he should drop his identity and live in the shadows all his life or choose to stand up for what he believes in, which new coaches can identify with when they’re clouded by others’ opinions that limit them to start their coaching career.
6/
Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989)
Ghibli Studio is widely recognized for its tear-jerking and heartfelt anime pieces, and their hit Kiki’s Delivery Service will surely serve as a loving yet warm-hearted film for all coaches who want to heal their inner child and eventually find themselves again.
Hop on a magic broomstick with Kiki, a 13-year-old young witch in practice who sets out into the big city to find her residence, get a job, and learn to be independent. Along the way, she learns her lessons of surviving alone in a strange place as a teenager, makes new friends, and owns her freedom by starting her delivery service.
The cinematic piece will resonate with coaches who are going against the norms and starting their passion project. You have no idea where to start, how to get clients, how to maintain your social media content, or how to price your coaching package.
Kiki experiences the same pattern as she navigates through her difficulties to grow both in her business and her well-being and finally finds her path to shine and thrive authentically.
I hope this fun-loving piece is a beautiful experience as you watch the film. Eventually, you will be reassured that you’re here for a reason and that your coaching business means a lot to the lives you will help later in life.

The Theory of Everything (2014)
The powerful story of Professor Stephen Hawking and his utmost strength to overcome disability has inspired many people.
This magnificent retelling of Stephen’s life, based on Jane Hawking’s memoir “Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen,” takes us on the journey of his studies in Cambridge on a new theory of the black hole as a young man, then diagnosed with ALS to later accomplished his prosperous yet miraculous life despite his sickness.
“The Theory of Everything” is the true living proof of rising against the odds and achieving your dreams, which is why it’s the perfect fit that we wanted to dedicate to all the coaches within our ecosystem as a love letter to each of you.
There will be stormy days ahead, but they will vanish. Leaving a hopeful day ahead of you.
What you do is enough; you are enough and infinite when surrounded by the people you love. The world is your universe, go out there and rediscover it.
8/
Suzume (2022)
Directed by Shinkai Makoto (also the director of “Your Name”), Suzume is another coming-of-age animated adventure film that shook the world’s box office.
Set in a small Japanese town in Kyushu, 17-year-old Suzume accidentally opens a door of chaos. With help from a stranger, she has to embark on a quest to bring Japan back to peace while it’s on the brink of destruction.
As shared by one of our ICC™ members, who’s a big fan of the film:
“I’ve been a huge fan of Makoto’s work since his debut film “Your Name.” “Suzume” did it again as the story itself is meaningful and greatly impacted me because it helped me rediscover healing, self-discovery, and finding the inner child within me.”
9/
Mona Lisa’s Smile (2003)
When it comes to not sticking to social norms, Mona Lisa’s Smiles, starring Julia Roberts, will surely hit home for many.
Set in the 1950s, Katherine Watson, a free-thinking art professor, is set to teach at the Wellesley Girls School. Along the way, she helps young female students appreciate the knowledge of the arts and challenges them to achieve more than marriage.
Social norms are a set of rules that are made for us to follow. We are bound by the toxic patriarchy over the years that women have to settle, especially female coaches, as there are different labels on us as “unstable,” “unsure,” insecure,” “not enough,” and so many more.
This movie is a gentle reminder to all new coaches to leave the fixation on limitations behind, stop comparing your work and worth to others, and thrive together in harmony.
10/
Kungfu Panda Franchise (2008 - 2024)
Po's adventure to reclaim his desire to learn Kung Fu has hit deeper over the years than you think.
Po has wanted to learn martial arts his whole life, but his adoptive father disregards his wishes and says he should inherit the noodle stall to keep the business growing. To his father’s avail, Po sets out on a journey to accomplish his dreams despite the hardships.
Kung Fu Panda will inspire coaches to do things fearlessly, to go against what’s meant for us created by society, and to find a community to thrive, just like Po has his friends with him along the way.
So, if you haven’t seen this franchise yet, make sure you do.
That concludes my curated list of 10 movies for new and aspiring coaches. I hope you enjoy it as much as our ICC™ members and I enjoyed compiling it.
